Global digital asset exchange-traded products (ETPs) surged to a record $218.1 billion in assets under management (AUM) at the end of September, a 6.3% monthly increase and the third straight month above $200 billion, according to an analysis by Matteo Greco, senior analyst at digital asset platform Fineqia International Inc (CSE:FNQ, OTC:FNQQF).

The broader digital asset market rose 4.1% to $3.99 trillion, with ETPs maintaining an average 50% premium over the underlying assets.

The rebound followed a brief slowdown in August, the first month of net outflows since March, and signaled renewed investor appetite for regulated crypto investment vehicles.

“September marked another milestone for the digital asset ETP market,” Greco said, noting that institutional interest remains strong as capital inflows returned swiftly after August’s pause.

Bitcoin ETPs regain momentum

Bitcoin-backed ETPs climbed 6.5% to $169.5 billion in AUM as the world’s largest cryptocurrency rose 5.6% to $114,316. The 16% monthly premium pointed to renewed net inflows, underscoring Bitcoin’s role as a core holding for institutional investors since the approval of US spot Bitcoin ETFs in early 2024.

Year-to-date, Bitcoin ETPs have gained 36.1% in AUM, outpacing the 22.4% rise in BTC’s price and reflecting a 61.2% premium, according to Fineqia.

Ethereum ETPs resilient

Ethereum-backed ETPs remained firm despite a 5.7% decline in ETH’s price to $4,140 in September. AUM for ETH products slipped just 1.6% to $32.68 billion, supported by roughly $300 million in net inflows during the month.

Over 2025, Ethereum ETPs have more than doubled in AUM, rising 100.9% versus a 24.3% price gain, equivalent to a 315% premium. That performance cements Ethereum’s position as the strongest growth driver among digital asset ETPs this year, Greco said.

Altcoin products stand out

Investor demand for exposure to alternative cryptocurrencies also picked up. Altcoin-linked ETPs saw AUM jump 36.7% to $10.3 billion, while diversified basket ETPs increased 10.6% to $5.48 billion.

Year-to-date, single-asset altcoin products are up 77.8%, compared with 29.6% for basket ETPs.

Institutional adoption remains strong

Across the third quarter, global ETP AUM rose 23.4%, outpacing the 16.4% increase in total market capitalization. Year-to-date, crypto market value has grown 17.5%, while ETP AUM has surged 44.5%, resulting in a 154% premium.

“The overall picture for Q3 confirms that regulated, transparent crypto ETPs remain the preferred vehicle for institutional exposure,” Greco said, adding that they continue to serve as the key bridge between traditional finance and digital assets.
