Status: Active

Owner: Editor-in-Chief

Review cycle: Annual (next review: March 2027)

Applies to: All editorial content on Proactive Investors sites globally

Aligned with: The Trust Project Trust Indicators

Proactive Investors is committed to producing accurate, independent, and transparent financial journalism. This policy sets out the standards that govern every piece of content we publish and the accountability frameworks that support that work.

1. Who We Are

Proactive Investors Limited is a full-service financial newswire serving retail and institutional audiences with timely, accurate, and independent coverage of public companies, markets, and financial developments across the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and Canada.

We operate a B2B commercial model in which we may have arm's-length relationships with companies we cover. Those relationships are strictly separated from our editorial operation and do not determine, shape, or influence the journalism we produce.

Proactive is a financial newswire, not a financial promoter or investment adviser.

2. The Trust Project Framework

Proactive aligns its editorial standards with the Trust Indicators developed by The Trust Project, an international consortium of news organisations committed to transparency, accountability, and quality in journalism.

  • Author Expertise
  • Type of Work

  • Locally Sourced Reporting
  • Diverse Voices

3. Editorial Independence

The editorial and commercial functions of Proactive Investors are strictly separated. No journalist, editor, or member of the editorial team may be directed by a commercial relationship to write, alter, spike, or frame a story in a way that favours or disfavors any company, individual, or financial product.

Commercial relationships may include corporate newswire distribution, investor relations support, or digital media services. They do not include payment for positive editorial coverage, payment linked to reader investment activity, editorial approval rights, or any ability for a client to request removal or alteration of editorial content.

All editorial content is produced under the journalist exemption provided by Article 20 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Financial Promotion) Order 2005 and in accordance with FCA guidance at PERG 8.12.

4. Journalist Standards & Author Expertise

All editorial content published under a Proactive Investors byline is produced by professional financial journalists with demonstrable expertise in the sectors and topics they cover.

Every staff journalist and regular contributor has a publicly accessible author profile page. Articles are attributed to a named author except in exceptional circumstances, in which case the byline is corrected promptly.

Freelance contributors and external columnists are subject to the same editorial standards as staff journalists and must disclose conflicts of interest before publication.

5. Content Types & Labelling

Readers must be able to identify clearly what type of content they are reading. Proactive uses consistent labels for News, Analysis, Interview, Opinion / Commentary, Data / Market Data, Press Release, Contributed Content, and Sponsored Content.

Sponsored and contributed content must be visually and editorially distinct from Proactive's own journalism at all times. No sponsored or contributed content may carry a Proactive journalist byline.

6. Accuracy, Verification & Sourcing

Accuracy is the foundation of Proactive's editorial credibility. Every factual claim in an article must be verifiable and verified before publication. Journalists are responsible for the accuracy of their copy, and editors are responsible for the accuracy of content they approve.

We prioritise primary sources such as company announcements, regulatory filings, government data, and peer-reviewed research. Information from secondary sources must be clearly attributed and not presented as original reporting.

Where articles reference source documents, reports, or data, a hyperlink to the primary source should be included where publicly accessible.

Proactive does not use AI-generated text as a substitute for original journalism. Any AI-assisted research or supporting material must be independently verified by a named human journalist before publication.

7. Reporting Methods & Transparency

Our core reporting methods include direct reporting from company announcements and regulatory filings, interviews with company executives and experts, attendance at investor presentations and conferences, analysis of publicly available financial and market data, and monitoring of official regulatory news services.

Where an article contains criticism of, or negative factual claims about, a named individual, company, or organisation, Proactive is committed to offering that party a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication where time permits.

Where errors are identified, corrections are published promptly and transparently. Significant corrections are appended to the article with a dated correction notice.

8. Diverse Voices & Inclusive Coverage

Proactive is committed to ensuring that its journalism reflects a breadth of perspectives, experiences, and voices in the markets and communities it covers. We actively seek a diverse range of sources and aim to avoid language or framing that could unfairly disadvantage any group.

9. Conflicts of Interest & Disclosure

All journalists and contributors must disclose any personal financial interest in companies they cover. Journalists with a personal financial interest in a company may not cover that company without explicit approval from the Editor-in-Chief.

Where Proactive has a B2B commercial relationship with a company being covered in editorial content, this is disclosed within the article using standardised disclosure language.

Standard disclosure wording: Proactive Investors has a commercial relationship with the company named in this article. This relationship has no bearing on the editorial content of this article, which has been produced independently under Proactive's Editorial Standards Policy.

10. Reader Feedback & Accountability

Proactive maintains the following feedback channels:

All editorial complaints and feedback are acknowledged within two business days. Substantive complaints are investigated and responded to within ten business days.

Where a complaint is upheld, a correction or update is published in accordance with this policy.

11. Linking Policy

Internal links should be relevant and inserted only where they genuinely aid reader understanding. External links to primary sources, official documents, regulatory filings, and reputable data providers are encouraged.

Proactive applies link attributes in line with Google's webmaster guidelines: standard editorial links may be followed, commercially related content uses rel="sponsored", and user-generated or unverified links use rel="nofollow".

12. Social Media Standards

Proactive journalists representing the brand on social media must adhere to the same standards of accuracy, fairness, and transparency that govern published content. Official accounts are managed by designated team members under editorial oversight.

13. Legal & Regulatory Compliance

Journalists must be aware of the boundaries of the journalist exemption and must not produce content that constitutes a regulated financial promotion without appropriate compliance involvement. Content must also avoid market manipulation, insider trading risks, defamation, copyright infringement, and unlawful publication of personal data.

14. Editorial Governance

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for oversight of this policy, editorial compliance, contributor standards, and the corrections process. This policy is reviewed at least annually and may be updated more frequently where legal, regulatory, or operational changes require it.
