EnWave Corp (TSX-V:ENW, OTC:NWVCF, FRA:E4U) said on Tuesday it has entered into a research and development licensing agreement with Rhizome Food and Farming, a North American food company led by Michelin-star chef Dan Barber.
The deal grants Rhizome broad rights to use EnWave’s REV technology for research and development, including collaboration with third-party food and agriculture companies and the production of limited commercial volumes for market testing.
Under the agreement, Rhizome has purchased a small-scale 3.6 kilowatt Radiant Energy Vacuum (REV) dehydration machine from EnWave to support ongoing product development efforts.
The partnership builds on earlier work connected to Barber’s food innovation initiatives, where a REV machine had been used on a rental basis to develop chef-driven products.
EnWave said that prior arrangement was separate and not affiliated with Rhizome.
Rhizome plans to integrate the REV technology into its culinary and agricultural research platform to explore new approaches to improving shelf stability, nutrient density and flavor in food products, while reducing risks tied to commercialization.
EnWave said the agreement adds Rhizome to its network of research partners, which includes institutions such as Cornell University, the Danish Technological Institute, Queensland University of Technology in Australia and Spain’s National Center for Food Technology and Safety.
The company added that if Rhizome chooses to scale successful concepts into dedicated manufacturing, the two parties would look to negotiate a full commercial license with royalty terms.
