Grey Matters Health to open first NovaScan Neuroimaging Clinic in September

Grey Matters Health (CSE:GREY, OTCQB:AGNPD, FRA:AGW0) announced that it will be opening its first NovaScan Neuroimaging Clinic in September, marking the start of the company’s planned US expansion focused on brain-specific PET imaging.
The company described the facility as the first of its kind in the US dedicated to providing brain-specific PET scans for the detection of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, including frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia. The facility will also be used for select neuro-oncology applications.
“We are very pleased to announce the timeline of our planned opening”, Grey Matters CEO Christopher Moreau said. “Our team is working diligently to prepare for the launch of our flagship clinic featuring new US FDA-cleared brain imaging technology and an elevated, patient focused approach to clinical services and care.”
The clinic opening comes as demand for Alzheimer’s disease diagnostics grows following the US Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Leqembi from Eisai and Biogen and Kisunla from Eli Lilly. Both treatments require a positive beta-amyloid brain scan or spinal tap before patients can be authorized to receive them.
Grey Matters said that the treatments, which are designed to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease by targeting amyloid plaque buildup, have helped create a growing market for brain-specific PET scans.
The company plans to use the September opening as the starting point for a national chain of NovaScan Neuroimaging Clinics, targeting patients who require specialized brain imaging.
Grey Matters highlighted what it described as limited PET imaging capacity in the US Most PET scanners are PET/CT hybrid systems, with 45% located in hospitals, where they are primarily used for cancer diagnostics and theranostics and cardiac imaging. The company said that this can make it challenging to schedule brain-specific scans in a timely manner.
Shares of Grey Matters were up around 9% on Tuesday morning in Canada.
