Google founder says it ‘messed up’ with woke AI chatbot

Google co-founder Sergey Brin has admitted that the tech giant “messed up” after its newly launched AI chatbot Gemini was found to struggle with creating images of white people.
Brin told workers in an internal meeting that the system had not been tested to its limits before being released to the general public.
Gemini picked up attention online when users noticed it would struggle to produce images of white people and would instead favour creating people from ethnic minorities.

However, it led to people creating historically inaccurate renderings like a black Nazi and a native American Viking.
Brin said: “We definitely messed up on the image generation; I think it was mostly due to just not thorough testing and it definitely, for good reasons, upset a lot of people.”
“We haven’t fully understood why it leans left in many cases and that’s not our intention.
“If you try it over this last week it should be 80pc better than the test cases that we’ve covered.”
Google suspended Gemini’s image-making ability, but the search engine giant has also faced criticism after the AI chatbot was found to refuse to write arguments in favour of oil and gas and was unable to condemn pedophilia.
