OpenAI has begun universally rolling out its artificial intelligence-powered search function for free in direct competition with Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Google.
ChatGPT Search will eventually be available to all logged-in users of the artificial intelligence platform, OpenAI said on Monday.
The search engine had previously only been available to paying users, offering tailored answers with information taken from the internet through the chatbot.
All logged on users will gain access to the search function “in the coming months,” according to OpenAI.
OpenAI also said its Advanced Voice feature would be equipped with search capabilities, offering information taken through partnerships with data and news providers.
Opening the search function up to users for free marks the latest escalation in OpenAI's rivalry with Google, which itself added generative artificial intelligence-powered results this year.
