General Motors Holden transmission issues spark Australian class action

General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has been hit with a class action lawsuit in Australia over alleged issues with transmission systems in its retired Holden brand.
Australian law firm Maurice Blackburn said on Wednesday that a class action covering people who bought certain Holden vehicles between 2011 and 2024 had been filed.
A suspected defect in the models resulted in a string of issues, such as transmission shudders and automatic transmission fluid leaks, the law firm accused.
General Motors scrapped the Holden brand in 2021, citing falling sales that meant it could not justify producing the right-hand drive vehicles.
Maurice Blackburn noted the lawsuit was seeking compensation for loss and damage, but did not specify the number of vehicles involved.
“The class action alleges that General Motors failed to comply with the guarantee of acceptable quality under the Australian Consumer Law and engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct,” it said.
General Motors shares were down 0.2% in pre-market trading on Wednesday.
