Google launches direct sales in India ahead of first retail stores

India appears to have become a lot more interesting to Silicon Valley.
Apple's Tim Cook is diverting production of the iPhone there from China amid tariff worries.
Now Google has spied a commercial opportunity, no doubt driven by the more benign relations between Washington and New Delhi.
The search giant has launched direct online sales of its hardware in India, allowing consumers to buy Pixel phones, watches and earbuds from its official store for the first time.
The move marks a shift from relying solely on authorised retailers and Flipkart, as the company prepares to open its first physical stores in the country.
The retail strategy follows Apple’s model, which includes flagship outlets and a direct sales approach that has driven strong revenue growth globally. Google is still finalising store locations, according to earlier reports.
Pixel devices in India are priced from around $360 to $1,900, while Apple iPhones range from $520 to $2,100.
Though Apple leads India’s premium phone segment with a 55% market share, Pixel lags behind at 2%.
