Gelion sees milestone for sulfur battery development programme

Gelion PLC (AIM:GELN) told investors it has reached a milestone in its sulfur battery programme after confirming that its cathode active material achieved 4Q areal capacity in coin-cell testing.
The company said this performance is a recognised benchmark for advanced sulfur cathodes. The result indicates that the material maintains stability and porosity at increased thickness, supporting the transition toward larger pouch-cell formats, it added.
Gelion highlighted that this progress strengthens its roadmap to produce high-energy-density and lower-cost sulfur batteries for commercial use.
"Achieving 4Q areal capacity in coin cells marks a major validation of our sulfur cathode platform and represents a key technical milestone for Gelion," CEO John Wood said. He added that the work provides confidence in scaling the technology toward prototype development.
"In the battery industry, 4Q is widely recognised as an important benchmark for high-energy-density sulfur cathodes, and these results give us strong confidence that our sulfur CAM can progress toward delivering the same performance in pouch-cell formats," he explained.
