Meta Platforms Inc -

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, XETRA:FB2A, SIX:FB)’ Threads app has overtaken Elon Musk-owned X in daily mobile users, underscoring intensifying competition in the social media market as Meta pushes new features and leverages its broader app ecosystem.

Threads now attracts about 141.5 million daily active users on mobile, compared with roughly 125 million for X, according to market intelligence firm Similarweb.

The gains appear to be driven by cross-promotion from Meta’s other platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, as well as a focus on creators and a rapid rollout of new features. Recent additions to Threads include communities, filters, direct messaging, long-form posts, disappearing posts and tests of in-app games, Similarweb said.

Despite losing ground on mobile, X continues to dominate on the web. The platform records about 145 million daily web visits, around 17 times more than Threads’ roughly 8.5 million, according to Similarweb.

X also remains ahead of Threads in the US, though the gap between the two platforms is narrowing, the data showed.

Meta last year said Threads had reached about 400 million monthly active users and roughly 150 million daily users, highlighting the speed at which the app has scaled since its launch as a text-focused rival to X.
