EnergyPathways PLC - EnergyPathways targets significant upside as energy storage hub advances

EnergyPathways PLC (AIM:EPP), the energy transition company, said the next twelve months would be critical as it pushes its flagship energy storage project towards a final investment decision, with chief executive Ben Clube describing a value prize running into the billions of pounds.

The company set out the outlook alongside annual results for the year to 31 December.

Clube said EnergyPathways would enter its Marram Energy Storage Hub, known as MESH, into the second window of the government's Long Duration Energy Storage cap and floor scheme over the coming year.

The scheme is a support mechanism designed to give investors in long-duration storage a guaranteed minimum return, the floor, in exchange for a cap on excess revenues.

The company also plans to begin the Development Consent Order process, a centralised planning route for major infrastructure, while seeking further licences from the North Sea Transition Authority and finalising commercial agreements with supply chain partners.

MESH is a fully integrated hub in the East Irish Sea and at Barrow-in-Furness, combining natural gas storage, hydrogen storage, compressed air energy storage and low-carbon power generation.

Clube said he expected to bring the project into commercial operation by 2031.

The company has reported a series of milestones since the financial year-end.

In May, it was granted a gas storage licence by the North Sea Transition Authority, covering plans for large-scale natural gas and hydrogen storage.

It also launched front-end engineering and design for the compressed air storage element after studies with Siemens Energy confirmed the project's economic viability.

That work is supported by a £15 million financing agreement, comprising a £5 million loan note and a £10 million at-the-market equity placing facility, signed in April 2026.

The company has additionally agreed to evaluate Associated British Ports' Port of Barrow as the location for the project's onshore facilities.

During 2025, the major elements of MESH were designated a development of national significance by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, allowing the project to be fast-tracked through central planning.

EnergyPathways reported a loss for the year of £1.6 million.

The annual meeting will be held on 22 July 2026 in London.
