Lightning Minerals Ltd - Lightning Minerals sharpens Australian gold and tungsten focus after strategic reset

Lightning Minerals Ltd (ASX:L1M, FRA:YZ1) has accelerated exploration across its flagship Australian projects during the June quarter after completing a strategic reset focused on gold and critical minerals.

The company advanced preparations for Phase 2 drilling at the Mt Turner Gold Project in northern Queensland, expanded exploration at the Warby Tungsten Project and completed a strongly supported A$1.85 million capital raising.

Lightning also progressed the planned divestment of its Canadian and Brazilian lithium assets, allowing capital and management resources to be directed toward its priority Australian portfolio.

Mt Turner drilling to target maiden resource pathway

Mt Turner remains Lightning’s principal value creation opportunity, with the company working toward a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate.

Final preparations were completed for a Phase 2 diamond drilling campaign, with the rig expected to arrive in mid-August.

The program will target extensions beneath historical workings, the down-plunge continuity of previously intersected high-grade shoots and additional structures identified through geological interpretation and recent geochemical work.

Drilling will initially focus on the Drummer Fault, an approximately 14-kilometre structural corridor interpreted to host an extensive intrusion-related epithermal gold system.

Lightning completed Phase 1 soil sampling and geological mapping across the Drummer Fault and Western Zone targets, generating additional anomalies that will be assessed alongside drilling, petrology, geophysical and historical exploration data.

Western Zone assays are expected during the September quarter and will help rank further drill targets across the broader Mt Turner district.

Independent study supports district-scale model

An independent petrology study undertaken by the University of New South Wales provided further support for Lightning’s geological model at Mt Turner.

The study found that gold mineralisation was closely associated with rhyolitic and dacitic intrusive centres positioned within major structural corridors.

It also identified evidence of multiple intrusive and mineralising events, as well as depth potential beneath historical workings at Pit 5.

The findings strengthened L1M's view that Mt Turner represents a district-scale mineral system containing several potential mineralised centres, rather than a series of isolated historical workings.

Managing director Troy Brice said the combination of drilling, geochemistry, structural interpretation and independent petrology had provided a stronger technical foundation as the company worked toward an initial resource.

Warby emerges as priority tungsten project

Exploration at the wholly owned Warby Project also gained momentum after rock-chip assays confirmed widespread high-grade tungsten mineralisation across several wolframite-bearing vein systems.

Results from historical workings along a two-kilometre structural corridor ranged from 750 parts per million tungsten to more than 50,000 parts per million, or greater than 5% tungsten.

Ten samples returned grades above 1% tungsten and six exceeded 3%, including results of 4.32%, 4.29%, 4.03% and 3.98%.

Elevated bismuth, tin and copper values associated with the tungsten mineralisation provided additional support for the project’s prospectivity.

Lightning subsequently completed Phase 2 soil sampling and geological mapping at Warby, with the program designed to define alteration zones, improve structural interpretation and generate targets for future drilling.

Assay results and target ranking are expected during the September quarter.

Capital raising strengthens exploration funding

Lightning completed an A$1.85 million capital raising during the quarter, with funding allocated to Mt Turner drilling, expanded geochemical programs, Warby exploration and working capital.

The company finished the quarter with A$1.19 million in cash.

A further A$725,000 before costs from the second tranche of the capital raising was scheduled to settle after quarter-end.

Lightning recorded net operating cash outflows of A$829,000 and capitalised exploration expenditure of A$234,000 during the three months.

The company said procurement savings had been achieved through tendering and contract renegotiations, although these were partly offset by staff termination costs and expenditure associated with maintaining and exiting international assets.

Portfolio simplification continues

Lightning is nearing completion of its withdrawal from Canada and Brazil as part of its strategy to reduce expenditure on non-core international projects.

The company is evaluating divestments, joint ventures and other transactions designed to unlock value while limiting future funding commitments.

Its other Australian assets, including projects in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, are also being assessed under the revised capital allocation framework.

Mailman Hill remains Lightning’s leading Western Australian project, while the company is also reviewing opportunities to apply artificial intelligence-assisted exploration planning across its portfolio.

Next steps

The September quarter is expected to include the start of Phase 2 diamond drilling at Mt Turner, laboratory results from the Western Zone soil program and further refinement of the project’s district-scale geological model.

At Warby, Lightning will receive Phase 2 soil assays, integrate geological and structural datasets and rank priority tungsten drill targets.

The company will also continue progressing the divestment of its Canadian and Brazilian assets while maintaining a disciplined approach to exploration spending.
