Canaccord Genuity -

Three brokers have shared first place in the FTSE AIM 100 client rankings for the first time since records began in January 2013.

Berenberg and Panmure Liberum moved up from second and third respectively to join Peel Hunt at the top, each now advising 20 companies on the index of AIM's largest constituents.

Panmure Liberum reached the summit by adding two clients in the quarter, while Peel Hunt's count fell from 22.

The figures come from Adviser Rankings, which publishes quarterly league tables of the professional firms advising AIM-quoted companies, with data collected up to 8 July.

Canaccord Genuity (TSX:CF, LSE:CF) held fourth place with 18 clients and remained first by the combined market value of those clients, at £12.9 billion.

Cavendish Capital Markets retained its lead in the total AIM broker rankings with 117 clients, still the only firm with a triple-digit count, although that is down from 122 in April.

Zeus Capital added two clients to reach 92 and narrowed the gap on the leader from 32 to 25. Panmure Liberum stayed third with 63.

The concentration at the top has been steadily increasing. Three years ago the leading three brokers advised an average of 77 clients each, a figure that has now reached 91, reflecting the wave of mergers that has reshaped the sector.

Movement elsewhere was more pronounced. Allenby Capital added four clients to climb from eighth to sixth, having ranked 11th three years ago, while Oak Securities also gained four.

VSA Capital entered the tables with eight clients and Tennyson Securities debuted in equal 16th place on the AIM 100 list with two.

Peel Hunt retained first place in the FTSE AIM UK 50 rankings with 14 clients, though its lead narrowed from seven to five.

Deutsche Numis moved up from third to share second with Berenberg, both on nine.

Looking at sector strengths, Zeus Capital took sole first place in consumer discretionary and consumer staples with 17 clients and extended its lead in energy to four. Cavendish held first place in financials and real estate, health care, industrials and technology.
